How the exam works
The exam is a trading account with rules the program enforces. You trade it like any perps account; the program watches it and writes the result.
Seasons
Exams run in seasons. Before a season opens, its terms are posted on chain:
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Exam fee | What you pay to start, in USDC |
| Exam balance | The size of the practice account you trade |
| Profit target | The gain that counts as a pass |
| Daily loss line | 5% of the balance at the start of the day, marked at exit value |
| Total loss line | 10% of the starting balance, marked at exit value |
| Time box | How long you have to reach the target |
| Markets | Which Jupiter Perps markets you may trade |
The operator can open and close seasons and set the terms of future seasons. A season's terms never change while it runs, and nothing about a live exam or seat can be changed after it starts.
Markets
You trade perpetual futures on Jupiter Perps: SOL, ETH and BTC against USDC. There are no spot coins in the exam. That rules out the oldest prop-firm trick on chain, where someone launches a coin, pumps it inside their own exam and passes.
Grading
- Your account is marked at exit value: what closing every position would pay right now, including the price impact of closing. Paper profit you could not actually take does not count.
- Reach the profit target inside the time box and the program writes a pass.
- Touch the daily or the total loss line at any moment and the program writes a fail and closes the exam.
- Run out of time without reaching the target and the exam ends as a fail with no loss line touched.
Every grade is a record on Solana. Anyone can read it: you, the next trader, a skeptic.
If the venue stops
If Jupiter Perps halts a market or the price feed goes stale during an exam, the exam does not grade on bad data. The rules for that case (pause the clock or refund the fee) are part of the season terms and are posted before the season opens.
Unhappy paths, in plain words
| What happened | What you see |
|---|---|
| You lost 5% in a day | "Closed at the daily line." The exam ends, the fee stays with the pool. |
| You lost 10% in total | "Closed at the total line." Same as above. |
| The clock ran out | "Time is up before the target." The fee stays with the pool. |
| You tried a market not on the list | The trade is refused before it is sent. |
